Summary

1) Manik Bali (NOAA Affiliate): Discussion on Special Issue of Newsletter (State of observe System for IR Special issue) and Demonstration User of GSICS Google Collab Tools

Manik Bali review the plan for the Special Issue of GSICS Newsletter on the State of observe System for IR instruments. He also demonstrated two Google Colab tools: including 1) a tool to visualize and process GSICS Products, and 2) a tool to produce state of observing system charts. He also demonstrated several examples and shows how to use these python scripts.

2) Likun Wang (NOAA Affiliate): Discussion on Improving IR Inter-calibration algorithm

Likun Wang introduced his thoughts on improve GSICS IR Inter-calibration algorithm. After reviewing general inter-calibration procedures, he then discussed why we need to apply for quality control after zenith angle match for paired collocation data. He used IASI/CrIS-ABI (GOES16) inter-calibration data for band 13 (10.8 µm) and band 7 (3.9 µm) as an example to illustrate the purpose for quality control. As conclusion remarks, he pointed out that , a) with enough samples, quality control with sensitivity test is good to diagnosis the bias pattern, and b) with two CrIS and three IASI instruments, we should cross-validation inter-calibration results.
