GSICS Annual Meeting 2024 Preparatory Meeting Minutes

The Annual Meeting will be held on 11-15 March 2024 and hosted by EUMETSAT in Darmstadt Germany.

Fangfang Yu (Chair GRWG ) invited Mounir Lekouara(EUMETSAT host ) to share information about the logistics. The following are the main takeaways of the discussion that followed Mounir's presentation.

  1. Logistical information would be shared via a meeting registration website which would be set up by EUMETSAT. The website would have information about VISA, Venu, Hotels, and other relevant information about the meeting.

  2. EUMETSAT venue would have the capacity to hold the Annual Meeting in hybrid mode.

  3. It is planned to have an Icebreaker and meeting Dinner.

  4. Participants can have lunch at the EUMETSAT canteen at the venue.

  5. The meeting agenda will be finalized on the GSICS Wiki. http://gsics.atmos.umd.edu/bin/view/Development/AnnualMeeting2024 The presentations will also be uploaded here. Weblinks for each session/breakout session will be shared here.

Fangfang Yu ( Chair GRWG), discussed the agenda with the members. A key challenge that emerged is how to combine the GSICS Executive Panel Meeting with the Annual Meeting. After taking inputs from Larry Flynn (GCC Director), Dave Doelling . Tim Hewison, Mounir Lekouara (EUMETSAT Host), Heikki Pohjola (WMO), Masaya Takahashi, Chengli Qi(MW Chair), Manik Bali Fangfang prepared the following draft.

Actions and Recommendations

  1. Recommendation: Need to be discussed if this has to be a pre-recorded presentation of 10 mins

  2. EP meeting to be supported by EUMETSAT, WMO, Chairs, Vice Chairs and GCC

  3. Action: Manik Bali to provide SOB table format and share it with Tim Hewison by 2023-12-31. An update on reference instrument performance to be provided at the breakout session.

  4. Action: Mounir to invite Members from TRUTHS team to give updates on the mission by 2023-12-31

  5. Mechanism to invite Newspace members to be discussed in the January 2024 Prep meeting

  6. Researchers not affiliated with GSICS are encouraged to attend/dialin into the meeting and participate.

  7. Seb to present Lunar workshop summary in the Mini conference.

  8. Action: Mounir to send a letter of invitation with names to be sent to CMA. Chengli Qi is the POC for CMA by 2023-12-31

  9. Action: Fangfang to set up a follow-up GRWG/GDWG planning meeting in January 2024
