Summary
Absolute calibration for microwave channels (by Lin Lin):
GPS Radio Occultation (RO) data collocated with ATMS measurements were collected in January 2012 and used as the input to the Monochromatic Radiative Transfer Model (
MonoRTM) code to produce the simulations. It is found that difference between brightness-temperature simulations using Boxcar SRF and measured SRF is within 0.3K. For NWP radiance assimilation, forward models need to consider the measured SRF.
Report on the NIST lunar calibration workshop:
Fangfang reported the NIST lunar calibration workshop hosted at NIST on May 14-15, 2012. More than 15 talks were presented and discussed during the workshop. It is recommended that the USGS ROLO model should be maintained and improved and NIST be the government agency to lead the inter-agency (NASA/NIST/NOAA/USGS) effort to meet the SI traceable absolute calibration accuracy goal.
